Fair Trade principles can transform the European Green Deal: moving towards a Global Green Deal

The European Green Deal (EGD) is a comprehensive plan proposed by the Commission to transform EU into sustainable, climate-neutral economy 2050. It includes targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing renewable energy use, promoting circular economy, and protecting biodiversity, among others. While its objectives are vital, EGD in current configuration suffers from major loopholes which seriously affect capacity meet core ambition of ‘just transition’, both within outside EU. This paper identifies main shortcomings outlines how recognition integration Fair Trade principles values would greatly improve drive positive change Europe as well with international partners Global South. will explain Advocacy Office (FTAO) facilitate an informal process aiming co-elaborate proposal (GGD) ahead next year’s election.
